Last year at Champions, the least heralded EMEA team won it all, and this year, I think XSET follow in their footsteps with a similar NA cinderella story. Zachary “zekken” Patrone will continue his excellent tournament, Matthew “Cryocells” Panganiban will step it up and Brendan “BcJ” Jensen will come up clutch for XSET. Call it NA and XSET hopium, but I think they beat LOUD and win the rematch with Leviatán to become champions. XSET will then beat LOUD to give us Leviatán vs. OpTic will finally beat a couple of EMEA teams - Fnatic and FPX - in the lower bracket but LOUD will get their revenge after losing three straight to OpTic. I think we’ll get an exciting upper final matchup here that Leviatán will win. When they faced each other at Masters: Copenhagen, we saw some crazy plays and incredible clutches from Marco Eliot “Melser” Machuca Amaro. In their postmatch press conference following their game against FPX, several members of XSET spoke very highly of their scrim partner Leviatán and hoped to face them in the final. Image credit: Brian Bencomo How will the rest of the bracket play out? They will make believers out of more people in beating Fnatic in this one. Fnatic looked great against 100 Thieves, but XSET looked even better in their group matches. They get better every event and Champions has been no different. FnaticĪfter beating FPX in the group stage, XSET head coach Don “Syyko” Muir wondered both in the postmatch broadcast interview and in the postmatch press conference why people were still doubting XSET. OpTic’s winless streak against EMEA will continue as Team Liquid wins this one. OpTic are very good at winning rematches, but unfortunately this isn’t a rematch, and this is a very good EMEA team despite the fact they got in via the Last Chance Qualifier. They’re 0-for-4 against four different teams. Will OpTic ever beat an EMEA team? It’s amazing that nearly two years into VCT and after competing at five international events and winning Masters once, they still haven’t beat a team from Europe. Read more: OpTic reach VALORANT Champions playoffs after beating Brazilian rival LOUD OpTic Gaming vs. Although FPX have not looked as sharp at Champions as they did in Copenhagen, they are the defending Masters champions and should beat DRX. DRX didn’t pull off any upset wins in the group stage, and they haven’t shown enough this year on the international stage to indicate they will beat a team of FPX’s caliber. DRX have been carrying the weight of being good, but not quite good enough at international events. These two teams faced off in the lower bracket of Masters: Copenhagen, where FPX won 2-0 to eliminate DRX and relegated them to their second consecutive 5th-6th finish at Masters. Leviatán have a great shot of honoring KRÜ’s legacy of being Brazilian slayers and replicate the success that their fellow Latin American team had at Champions 2021. Fabian “Shyy” Usnayo has the third-highest K/D at Champions so far on Fade, the second-most played agent after Chamber. That said, Leviatán have looked incredible at Champions in beating the Masters: Copenhagen runners-up Paper Rex and Champions playoff-bound Team Liquid. KRÜ Esports in their opening match of Masters: Copenhagen. Their only loss against a team not named OpTic was vs. Of the team’s four losses this year, three of them have come against OpTic. They were just singing over the stuff that we had laid down the night before or day before. So when they were there, we weren’t playing. And they’d come in about noon and stay ‘til about seven or eight until supper time and then they’d go home back to a hotel. And then the Blind Boys would come in and sing. Oftentimes we would cut only two takes, maybe three at most. It felt very spontaneous-we would sit listening to these tempos and just think about the feel of the songs and what we could do. We got there a few days before The Blind Boys did and we knocked out so much stuff. Basically, working with the band was just so quick. So we decided to go for a different approach. I would love to know how many sessions they did. It’s just such a vast catalog-its incalculable. They have like six different versions of some songs. They have like 25 greatest hits albums, including vinyl-only ones from the ’70s. So there was a lot of cross-referencing with a career as long as theirs. Well, they’ve already recorded that three times in the last fifty years-let’s pick something else. When we would come up with an idea, we’d just say, “You know, I’ve always loved this tune,” say, ‘Un-cloudy Day,’ and I would have to go back to their back-catalog, and I would look it up and cross-reference it. When it came time to work with them and arrange their songs, did you go back and listen to any of their previous recordings in particular? Not only have they played together for seven decades, but they have also aged from a traditional gospel group who refused to perform secular music to one of the most broadly embraced veteran acts of the festival scene. The Blind Boys have one of the most unique histories of any band currently touring. He produced the record but put me in charge of arrangements and the “feel” and song structure for all the songs on the record. He said, “Dude, wanna play on the Blind Boys record?” I’m like “Yup…” Justin gave me the role of musical director for the Blind Boys. Anyway, so once they reached out to him, Justin called me the next day. They saw Justin win a Grammy for Best New Artist and that’s when he came onto their radar because they’re kind of in that Grammy world. They’re collaborators and they love to work with people, and they’re all about the guest spots-they’re just all about that stuff. This time it worked out for me because the Blind Boys reached out to Justin Vernon about producing their record. You know, I have learned that it really is that you’ve just gotta be in the right place at the right time. How did you first get involved with the legendary gospel group? You led the house band on their new album of indie-rock collaborations I’ll Find a Way and played with them at two shows in North Carolina last week. Let’s start by talking about your recent involvement with the Blind Boys of Alabama. While driving around North Carolina with his brother and Megafaun bandmate Brad, Cook explained his role in the Blind Boys’ indie-gospel mash-up and what’s next for his “beer drinking” blues band. Cook also recently released a solo EP This Side Up and will revisit his jamband youth with both Vernon and the members of Megafaun as part of The National’s upcoming Grateful Dead tribute. Both projects are also collaborations with Justin Vernon, who played with the members of Megafaun for years in the Americana post-jam group DeYarmond Edison before founding Bon Iver. But during the past nine months, Cook has fulfilled two of his dreams, playing the popular indie rock fest with his long-dormant blues trio The Shouting Matches and serving as musical director on Gospel legends the Blind Boys of Alabama’s new studio album I’ll Find a Way. When the Durham, NC freak folk trio Megafaun announced a hiatus in late 2012, few fans would have guested that banjo player/keyboardist Phil Cook’s upcoming year would include both a marquee slot at Coachella and a studio collaboration with a Grammy winning gospel group. Once all the choices are selected, you click on ‘Calculate’ and it provides the maximum horizontal length and other helpful information. You can select ‘Max Span’ or ‘Span Options’, wood species, dimensions, grade, member type, deflection, spacing, live load, dead load, service conditions, and whether it’s incised lumber or not. There are numerous rafter spacing calculators available, but our preference is the American Wood Council’s online Span Calculator. The information collected is from Table R802.4.1(1) of IRC-2021 and the American Wood Council. The following table compares the span for common #2 grade dimensional lumber of different species and the three typical spacings between rafters. It is also commonly expressed as a ratio of rise to run, or a fraction of the rise over the run. Span is typically measured horizontally along the rafter projection from the ridge to the outer edge of the supporting outside wall plate. So, it is always important to check with your local building department or other building experts for rafter or roof joist spacing requirements. Code requirements vary based on different climate conditions in different geographic regions. Live and snow loads vary from 10 to 70psf with dead loads of 10 and 20psf and deflections of L/∆=180 and L/∆=240.Īnother important factor is location. Additional factors include slope, eave and rake overhangs, roof tie-downs, rafter support bracing, collar ties, ridge connection, roof openings, ventilation, and roof finish. Roof rafter spacing requirements include rafter span, live and dead loads on the roof, deflection, wind and snow loads, wood species, grade, rafter size and thickness, and whether a ceiling will be attached or not. The most current IRC, published in 2021, along with previous editions, provides rafter span and spacing tables for different variables in Chapter 8. The International Residential Building Code (IRC), which is the basis of most building codes in North America, identifies the standard spacing between rafters as 12”, 16”, 19.2”, and 24” on center. So, always check the prescriptive code tables, or with a Structural Engineer before building. Thicker dimensional lumber, such as 2x10s and 2x12s can span further at 24” centers than 2x4s or 2圆s at 12” spacing for comparable wood species, grade, and load variables. The greater the space between rafters, the shorter the distance they can span. Rafter joist spacing is only one aspect of roof design and building that affects the span, along with load variables, wood species, and grade. The typical on-center spacing, according to the International Residential Building Code (IRC), is 12”, 16”, 19.2”, and 24”, which means the actual space between the rafters is 10.5”, 14.5”, 17.7”, and 22.5”. It is measured from the center of one rafter to the center of the next, also known as ‘on-center’, which makes it easier to determine the number of rafters based on the building’s length. Rafter spacing is the distance between parallel rafters or roof joists. How to Calculate Roof Rafters: How Many Rafters Do I Need?.Our goal is to provide a complete guide for sizing and spacing rafters for your projects. We’ll discuss 16” and 24” spacing, how to calculate the number of rafters required, 19.2” spacing, and the spacing when using metal roofing and for lean-to and porch roofs. In this guide, we’ll explain rafter spacing, code requirements, roof rafter span tables, and rafter spacing calculators. The wider the space between rafters often results in rafters of greater depth too. Depending on all contributing factors though, 16” and 24” are commonly used for most buildings. Standard industry roof rafter spacing is 12”, 16”, 19.2”, and 24” on-center, however other spacing may be used by a Structural Engineer. Plus, you have to select the correct rafter spacing to span the distance based on all the factors that affect your design. You have to consider live, dead, wind, and snow loads, select the correct species, grade, and dimension of lumber for the rafter span, and decide if there will be a ceiling or loft supported by the rafters. Designing and building a roof for a shed, porch, cabin, garage, or home can be a daunting task. Our solution ended up with the development of react-tracking, which provides a rich, declarative API to embed tracking information within your app. This also allowed us to use the app hierarchy itself to establish the contextual awareness tracking events often needed. We wanted to move away from the DOM as the source of truth and instead use the components themselves to signal interactions of interest. We saw this re-platform effort as a great opportunity to “bake in” analytics and tracking within the framework we were building. In some cases, it was impossible and we had to put analytic-specific code at seemingly random places within our app. This was not only brittle, but it was very difficult to do without exposing non-semantic data necessary for the analytic modules to see and attach. That is, we’d often use the DOM as the source of truth for the existence and interaction of various elements on the page. Traditionally, the tracking and analytics concerns of our app were “bolted on” after the fact. As part of this, we had the rare opportunity to rethink how we do many things, including data fetching, application bundling, ads, tracking and analytics. The core product teams of The New York Times are investing heavily in React.js and we’re building out a completely new web platform for all of our products. I haven't worked with these as extensively so can't speak much from experience, but I do know they're far superior to AcrossLite's. Now granted, most of these features are pure gimmick (except for Unicode support, I mean c'mon) and it hasn't been a huge loss not to have them for decades, but they do limit what the constructors and editors are able to achieve.Īre there better puzzle formats out there? It supports rebuses (multiple letters in a square) but only in a very limited way. This precludes certain types of gimmick puzzles. If there are two or more white cells in a row, there MUST be a clue number in the first, and no clue numbers allowed anywhere else. It doesn't support any kinds of non-standard clue numbering. It only supports the Windows-1252 character set (no full Unicode support), so constructors can't put a lot of foreign words in their puzzles (hi there, Slashdot!) It REALLY IS a terrible file format, and I understand why the NYT wants to ditch it: I've developed a crossword puzzle app that parses AcrossLite.
